Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson (R-LA-04) endorsed Kevin Coughlin’s campaign for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District this week.
“I’m proud to say that I’ve been endorsed by [Speaker Mike Johnson]. He knows [Ohio’s 13th Congressional District] deserves better than a radical voice who will align with Joe Biden 100% of the time,” Coughlin wrote in an X, formerly Twitter, on Friday.
“This is one of very few toss-up Congressionals, and we HAVE to flip this seat to get our country back on track in 2025,” Coughlin (pictured above, left) added.

Ohio’s 13th Congressional District is currently represented by Democrat U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (D-OH-13). Sykes was elected to the seat in 2022 after serving eight years as a state representative for Ohio House District 34.
Last month, Coughlin defeated Chris Banweg and Richard Morckel in the GOP primary on March 19 with 39,088 votes (65 percent). Coughlin is now set to face Democrat Sykes in the November general election.
Coughlin was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1996 where he flipped the seat from Democrat to Republican. He was elected to three terms and served until 2001 before becoming a member of the Ohio Senate in 2001 where he was elected twice.
Currently, Coughlin serves as the president of Lexington Companies where he provides “strategic counsel and expertise in management, communications and public policy to businesses and nonprofits.” He also currently serves on the boards of the Capitol Square Foundation and the Western Reserve Hospital Community Business Leaders Council.
In addition to Johnson, Coughlin has also been endorsed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH-04), former Ohio U.S. Representative Bob Gibbs, the Ohio-based We The People Convention, and other local groups and officials from the state’s 13th Congressional District.
